COACHES FAVOURITE WORKOUTS TAKE 2 - (Post your favourite to comments!)
My favorite part of CrossFit is the camaraderie it promotes. The suffering I've endured in close to a decade of doing CrossFit has brought me, more than anything else, countless friends. My favorite workouts, therefore, are those in which the class makes an unspoken agreement to take down the workout as a team, supporting and pushing each other from start to finish. The video below captures this perfectly for me. I feel pretty weird posting a video of myself "winning" a workout, but I'll ask you to look through that blatant narcissism to watch the dynamics of the group. And PLEASE look past the slo mo shirt removal, and occasional range of motion violation, I didn't make this video haha.
Prior to the workout, there was no talk of "you push me, I'll push you," the sentiment was simply understood, dictated by the tenacity with which we each approached the run, the kettlebell, and the pullup bar. We knew that our Bromies were giving their 100% and that anything less from ourselves would be disrespectful to the group. Everyone hit a PR that day, most beating their previous time by minutes, and I didn't PR "Helen" again for years afterwards.
The video reminds me of the importance of camaraderie. We often focus on pushing ourselves in a workout. Next time you come in to the gym, try instead to push the people working out alongside you. I bet you'll find yourself caught up in the collective effort, swept up in the intensity of the class that you helped foster. You'll get a better workout, but more importantly, you'll build a stronger community.

My favorite is from a couple of years ago. I made up one for myself to do before a Saturday morning
class at our original Mountain View gym, which had a nice mile loop laid out. I shoulder racked a 95lb barbell, and walked with it for the mile - but every 10 steps I stopped and did 3 hang power cleans! If I dropped the barbell I penalized myself with 5 burpees. It took me more than an hour to finish, and was the most mentally and physically draining workout I've ever done. Love challenging myself with huge mental/physical toughness challenges (what Alex calls "Mickey workouts"), and I often fall short of my usually unrealistic goals, but on this day I didn't, so I have great memories of it.

My favorite workout was Fight Gone Bad done with my husband, his very first CrossFit workout. He died......I was on the floor with him trying to get him to respond to me. But I was really proud of him for doing the workout and going hard, I knew he would be hooked even though he almost died. There's something to be said about training with your spouse, it builds strength in and out of the home. :)
It was done with my first CrossFit group in 2010 who I love dearly and miss training with, my coach really got me into CrossFit and taught me a lot of what I know.
