NorCal CrossFit Dec. 2nd 2013

Welcome to our newest graduates from RWC!

ATTENTION NORCAL FAMILY: It’s time to rally and support a local high school!

NorCal Winter Fundraiser

This holiday season NorCal CrossFit will be hosting a fundraising competition for Saturday, January 4th. We will be raising money to set up a functioning CrossFit facility at Summit San Jose Charter School. Below is an email we received from a current student requesting our help in outfitting their gym.

“I’m really excited to begin the startup of a CrossFit club at my school. We have decided to start as a club and then transition into a sports program once it is fully functional.

Summit San Jose is divided between two campuses, Tahoma and Rainier, neither of which have a physical education program. All students are required to log at least 100 hours of outside physical fitness on their own. With the help of NorCal CrossFit, I would love to start an after school workout class that will be structured similarly to CrossFit classes. Students who attend these workouts will be able to count these hours towards the required physical fitness hours. Not only will this program promote good health and fitness, but it will also introduce CrossFit into the high school community. The list of resources that we will require is listed below.

Status Report:

  • Nov. 15: I met with the club director at Summit San Jose and have gotten approval to promote this club at school.
  • Nov. 15: The club director and principal have approved a location to store equipment and hold CrossFit classes.
  • Nov. 15: I spoke with a teacher today who has agreed to be the advisor of the CrossFit classes (a requirement for any summit club).
  • Nov. 18: After speaking with Roman Tires, a used tire center, they have donated three 200 lb tractor tires to support our CrossFit club. I plan to reach out to other companies as well.

Many students and teachers are excited about getting this program started at Summit.”

It's incredible to see a teenager dedicated to such a healthy, proactive cause. What do you think team? Can our community match his enthusiasm and support him in setting up a CrossFit program at his school? Heck yeah we can!

The competition's format will be as follows:

  • 3 person teams, at least one girl per team (up to three is okay)
  • Entry fee is $20. There is an additional fundraising goal of $50 per participant, $150 per team. Teams are free to raise more than $150, but for every dollar less than $150 that they raise they will be penalized with 3 burpee/dollar floater wod. That means that if they raise $120, the whole team (each member) needs to do 3 X $30 = 90 burpees each. We'll have a fundraising form that people can email out to friends and family that should make the goal more than reasonable. NOTE: DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCABLE!
  • We'll have both an Rx'd and a scaled division. We'll give you the details on each (i.e. what’s to be expected of athletes competing in the Rx’d division) ASAP.
  • We will be holding a raffle again, as we did at the brodown. We'll be reaching out to the community soon for donations.
  • If you're not competing, we need your help judging/organizing! Email jonji@norcalcrossfit.com if you’re interested in helping out.
  • you can sign up a team HERE even if you are not entirely sure who all three members will be.

This will be a great way to cap the holiday season and kick off the New Year. Once again, donations are tax deductible. Click here for a generic fundraising letter that you can send to your friends and family. Please let me know if you have any questions, get started in assembling your teams, and let the games begin!
