Sally Goldman has been a member of NorCal CrossFit since joining the original Mountain View location in December of 2010. Since that first day in the gym, she has never looked back, giving her all to every workout, constantly striving to better herself, and smiling the whole time. All of her hard work has finally paid off; Sally currently sits 33rd in the world, advancing to the next round of competition to earn her spot at the 2014 CrossFit Games.
This Thursday (today) at 5pm the top 200 in each division are all given 4 workouts that must be completed by Monday at 5pm. From there, the top 20 in each division advance to the Games in Carson this summer.
We took an opportunity to pick Sally’s brain about her feelings going into the next round of competition:
How many years have you been competing in CrossFit?
I began CrossFit (after many years as a couch potato) about 3.5 years ago, and my first competition was about 2.5 years ago.
Did you compete in any other sport?
As a child I swam and played lots of tennis. In high school, in addition to swimming and tennis, I also played basketball and a little bit of softball. Then I got busy with the rest of life.
What is your favorite part about competing in CrossFit?
For about 30 years I totally gave up athletic competition except for some occasional softball leagues, and didn't realize how much I missed competitive sports until I entered my first CrossFit competition. I enjoy the challenge of pushing myself to see what I am able to do and the progress I've been able to make. Also, I've made so many friends during these competitions and just love the support and camaraderie of them.
What are you hoping comes out of the hopper tonight?
Heavy stuff (barbells, dumbbells, KBS), and some muscle-ups. A max back squat or shoulder to overhead would be nice. But whatever it is, I'll leave it all out there this weekend and give it my best shot!
We wish you the best of luck, Sally. You have the support of the NorCal CrossFit community cheering you on!!
