Janina has come a long way and continues to improve each day at the gym. She was introduced to NorCal through her son who was previously a member, and then quickly became a regular, attending almost every week day and working hard throughout the whole hour. She started by squatting in her toes with her chest collapsing. She can now squat with her feet flat on the ground and chest tall, even weighted with a barbell of 85lbs. She completes every workout with a smile on her face and has seen dramatic changes to her physique and athletic performance. Janina is a member who truly gets better from week to week. I can't see where this amazing lady will be in a year from now, probably a bodyweight clean and jerk! She is a true testament to the statement, "age ain't nothing but a number!"
When did you join NorCal Crossfit?
I joined July 2013.
Why did you join Crossfit?
I had been participating in a Cardio-kickboxing class that was not quite producing the fitness results I had hoped for. My son had been encouraging me to try it out, so I did.
What changes in your health, physique and overall performance have you seen since starting Crossfit?
I have consciously changed my eating habits since I joined crossfit. This change in diet, coupled with my weekly crossfit workouts, has increased my strength, as well as, a loss in inches. While I have not reached my desired weight, I feel greater all around health, fitness, and energy.
What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting Crossfit?
Don't be intimidated, like I was. Move beyond your comfort zone and trust your inner strength. Your not alone, many are with you along the way to motivate you to keep working hard.
Favorite Crossfit exercise?
Favorite activity outside of Crossfit?
Discovering new places, Local and beyond...
Proudest accomplishment at Crossit?
That I have been consistent with my workouts and I'm a few months away from reaching my 1 year anniversary.
Favorite place to eat a paleo-ish meal?
I hope this is considered paleo-ish, "Chipotle."
Something that people would be surprised to know about you?
Back in my college days, I was a member of a Polynesian Dance Team. Boy was that a long time ago!!
What/who inspires you the most?
I am inspired by all the people I have encountered in my journey who genuinely strive to make a positive difference in the lives of others. This moves me to want to emulate that same act of kindness.
