The 6.30pm class at Santa Clara getting some 'homework' done after class!

Practise it a lot

We all want to be better at some thing, whether it is stringing together more pullups or holding a damn L-sit for longer than 10 seconds! The skill work and workouts we do here at NorCal are designed to get you pretty good at most things but some times it takes a little bit more effort, dedication and persistence to achieve that one movement goal you are after. Think about the beginning of your CrossFit journey; where did you come from? Was it a sporting background, a recreational fitness background, or was it sedentary? We all start with different skills and tricks. The person next to you who rowed for 10 years might be a little better than you at rowing from the get go, but maybe they can't do a double under to save their life! Do you need to get better at rowing? Maybe, probably not, but they could definitely do with some extra double under practise.

These are things we can practise a lot of and not have it disrupt our training or performance. A few reps every day add up to a lot of practise time. My goal is to be able to perform a pancake stretch with my nose to the ground. It might take removing my adductor muscles for this to be a reality but I am determined that if I keep working on it, one day before I am 100, it will happen!

Remember, the goal is to be pretty good at most things. It isn't going to happen overnight but you can do a little extra to make it happen faster. If you feel like there is something you want to be better at but don't know how to go about doing it, talk to a coach; they will have some progressions and rep schemes to help you get closer to your goal. The catch is that you have to actually do what they prescribe ;-)

WORKOUT FOR MONDAY

Split Jerk - work up to a heavy 1 rep

30sec Burpees

30sec rest

30sec hand release pushup

30sec rest

30sec DB shoulder to Overhead

30sec rest

3 Rounds
